Wadhu – the Ritual Ablution: Beloved servants of Allah, do know that Allah has said: “surely Allah loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify themselves” (surah Baqarah, 222)
Allah has declared: “O ye who believe! when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces, and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; Rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles. If ye are in a state of ceremonial impurity, bathe your whole body. But if ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands, Allah doth not wish to place you in a difficulty, but to make you clean, and to complete his favour to you, that ye may be grateful” (surah Maida, 6) by Imam Ihsan Ahmad Ø The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “purity is half of faith” Wadhu wipes away sins and raises ranks Dear friends I would like to mention below the merits of wadhu (ablution) which washes away the sins and raises the ranks. It is narrated from Abu Huraira (R.A) that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Shall I not inform you of that which wipes away the sins and raises the ranks?”
The Companions (R.A) replied, “Yes, O Rasulallah!” Rasulallah informed: to make complete wadhu during the cold, to be patient during trials and tribulations to visit the mosque often to wait for the next prayer after completing this one (guarding the ritual prayers) (Tirmizi, Nasai, ibn Maza, Musnad Ahmad) Prayers by the angles Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) has mentioned from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that if anyone spends the night in a state of purity with a purified sign then the angles join with him in following this purified sign. When he wakes up then the angels pray, “O Allah forgive this servant of yours because he has spent the night in a purified state” (Maja-uj-Jawayed, Part 1, page 226) Eight doors of paradise opened Narrated from Hazrat Umar ibn Khattab (RA), the Prophet, peace e upon him, said, “if any of you recite kalima shahadat after making the wadhu then eight doors of paradise is opened for him so he may enter by any door he wishes” (Tirmizi, Nasai, ibn Maza, Musnad Ahmad, Darimi) Sound of shoes in paradise It is reported from Abu Huraira (RA) that the Prophet.
Peace be upon him, asked Hazrat Bilal (RA) after the Fajr prayer, “would you inform me of the blessed amal (practice) that you have been doing since embracing Islam, because last night I heard the sounds of your footsteps (shoes) in paradise?” Hazrat Bilal (RA) replied, “I do not have such an amal after embracing Islam. But during the day or night whenever I have made the wadhu I complete prayers (salat or namaz) afterwards for my Lord.”
In another narration it is related that he said, “Whenever my wadhu is broken I make new wadhu and pray two raka’ats.” (Bukhari, Muslim, Musnad Ahmad) Wadhu increases the beauty of the believer It is reported from Abu Huraira (RA) that he said, “I have heard my beloved (Prophet, peace be upon him) say, ‘the beauty of the believer reaches up to where the water of his wadhu reaches.’” (Muslim) The sins leave the body It is narrated from Usman ibn Affan (RA) who said that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Whoever makes the wadhu and makes it well and properly then all the sins leave from his body even the ones beneath the fingernails.” (Muslim) Wadhu and forgiveness for the Muslim Narrated from Abu Umama (RA) that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “when the Muslim makes wadhu then all the sins from his ears, eyes, two hands and feet depart, if he sits and prays (salat) after this then there is forgiveness for him.” (at-Targib wa-Tarhib) Mas’ala (question) In this hadis shareef it is permitted to make the prayer sitting down even though one has the capacity to complete it standing.
However, it is better to make it standing. Because it is stated in the Hadis shareef that completing the nafl (voluntary) prayers sitting down receives half the sawab (reward). 10 rewards in making new wadhu in the state of wadhu Narrated from Ibn Umar (RA) that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Whoever makes the wadhu while in the state of wadhu there are 10 rewards for him.” (Abu Dawud, Tirmizhi, ibn Majah) Angels of mercy do not enter homes where one delays the (obligatory) bath Narrated from Hazrat ‘Ali ibn Abu Talib (RA) that the beloved Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “in whichever home remains picture, dog or (ritually) unclean person the angels of mercy do not enter there.” (Abu Dawud, Nasai) The Master, peace be upon him, has said,
“I do not like that a (ritually) unclean person sleeps before making wadhu because I worry he might die without the wadhu and (angle) Gibrael will not come in to his presence.” (Tabrani shareef) The Prophet (SAW) will recognize his Ummat on the Day of Judgement Hazrat Jir (r.a.) has narrated from Hazrat Abdullah (RA) that they (Companions, may Allah be pleased with them) asked, “O Rasulallah, how will you recognize your Ummat (nation, followers) who you have not seen before?” He replied, “The marks of their wadhu will glow on their forehead and hands so it will be easy to recognize them.” O friends who have attained the marifat (enlightenment or awareness) try to keep your wadhu at all times, if this is not possible then at least before you sleep in the night. If your bath is obligatory then make sure you take your bath and make wadhu as soon as possible.
May Allah enable us to keep our wadhu at all times. Amin – summa Amin! Yours Sincerely, Imam Ihsan Ahmad, Khalifa Furfura Shareef
